It's a simple one but a knock in the face
Reflection - 7/30
Earlier this week I came across a post by @iansimkins on Instagram that got me thinking.
The writer recalled a time in college when the professor asked the class to read 1 Corinthians 13:4-7.
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
Everyone was then told to replace the word ‘love’ with their first name. In my case, it would be “Toyosi is patient, Toyosi is kind. Toyosi does not envy, Toyosi does not boast ..”. And, whilst reading the students were instructed to make notes of the ones that seemed the least true for them in that present moment - a good guess would be that those are the things God wanted to work on in them.
As I reflected on this post I was reminded once again just how imperfect we all are and how graceful God is. We are all flawed in our own ways, and we each have our own shortcomings. If we are honest, we all fall short of this standard of love in some way or the other. But, when the bible talks about God being love, it is clear that everything flows from who He is. So, the actions He does aren’t performative, but they are just Him. So, if He is love and He’s mastered love, it would be silly of me to not let him work in me to become more loving, right?
Just some thoughts….
Till next time,
Toyo-siii

I love the inversion of that passage. So goodd
